What We Offer
Ages 3 – 5
Young children may not always respond consistently to traditional hearing tests and can find it difficult to sit still for extended periods. For this reason, we offer an ear health screening rather than a full hearing test. This screening helps identify any concerns that may require further investigation. Our ear health screening includes:
- Review of History – We take a detailed history to identify any potential risk factors or concerns regarding your child’s hearing development.
- Otoscopy – Using a small handheld light (otoscope), we check the ear canal and eardrum for wax buildup, infections, perforations, or any other visible ear health concerns.
- Tympanometry – This test assesses how well the eardrum moves in response to pressure changes, helping to detect middle ear issues such as fluid buildup or infections (common in young children).
- Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) – A small probe is placed in the ear canal to measure the ear's response to sound. This test helps determine if the cochlea (inner ear) is functioning properly.
These tests are objective, meaning the child does not need to actively respond, allowing for a more accurate and reliable assessment of ear health.

Ages 5 – 16
For children aged 5 and older, we offer a comprehensive hearing assessment, which includes:
- Review of History – We take a detailed history to identify any potential risk factors or concerns regarding your child’s hearing development.
- Otoscopy – Using a small handheld light (otoscope), we check the ear canal and eardrum for wax buildup, infections, perforations, or any other visible ear health concerns.
- Tympanometry – This test assesses how well the eardrum moves in response to pressure changes, helping to detect middle ear issues such as fluid buildup or infections (common in young children).
- Pure Tone Audiometry – The child listens to sounds through headphones and responds when they hear them. This test helps determine their hearing thresholds.
- Speech Testing – Assesses the child’s ability to hear and understand speech in quiet environments.
This assessment is suitable for children experiencing difficulty with speech development, classroom learning, or suspected hearing issues and is suitable for those needing report for ENT or Paediatrician.
Other Testing & Referral Options
Hearing Australia
Hearing Australia provides government-funded hearing services for eligible children. If your child qualifies for their program, we can help guide you on the referral process.
Community Health
Public health services offer hearing tests for children. Availability and eligibility can vary, so we recommend checking with your local provider.
Sound Scouts
This is a clinically validated app that screens for hearing issues in children over the age of 4. It is a useful tool for parents or teachers who suspect hearing difficulties.
Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) Testing
If your child can hear but struggles to process and interpret sounds correctly, APD testing may be recommended. This typically requires referral to a specialist, and this is not testing that we offer. We do recommend having a hearing test prior to looking into APD testing to rule out any hearing loss.
Booking an Appointment
No Referral Required
You do not need a doctor’s referral to book a hearing test for your child.
